Spectrum of Greed

Spectrum of Greed - The book.

Something smells fishy when two young American billionaire entrepreneurs can’t get into the wireless business.  Ethan and Paul Liberty have climbed to the dizzying heights of business success, living the American dream before hitting 30.  Now, faced with the challenge of growing a company that is already massive, they look at the only market big enough to give them the growth they need - the untapped, wild west of wireless internet.

Starting in Washington DC, where the FCC clutches the wireless market in a powerful, yet inept grasp, the brothers rapidly realize that the government is not really in charge.  Introduced to a shadowy figure known only as Dolph, the brothers quickly find that the deal they have struck may have been with the devil.  A looming spectrum auction has players from industry, government and crime all laying everything they have on the line for the billions in payoffs that await.

As the clock ticks down to the final moments of the auction, the FBI, now suspicious that things are corrupt, converge on DC, along with lobbyists, corporate execs and government officials.  Is there time to find out why the newly appointed FCC chairman was almost killed in a house fire?  Why one of the Liberty brothers was critically injured by a car bomb?

This is an admirable piece of work for this first time author. I found it to be unpredictable and continuously entertaining. While it addresses a very technical topic, I felt that it was told in a way that any reader could understand. Additionally, it actually motivated me to be more aware of services I am purchasing and slightly angered me a little at what is likely being done to take advantage of consumers. So in the end, a book that makes an impact on me deserves some praise. Well done.
